Andrews McMeel Syndication (AMS) has announced that it will end distribution of the Tarzan comic strip on June 20, 2021. Tarzan, a fictional character created by Edgar Rice Burroughs, first appeared in the 1912 novel Tarzan of the Apes, and then in 23 sequels. The character proved immensely popular and quickly made the jump to other media, including the newspaper strip in 1929. It had been in rerun status since 1972 and the Sundays since 2002.

According to  Andrews McMeel comics editor Shena Wolf,  the decision was “based on the very small client list  and content concerns that come with running a comic that was made nearly one hundred years ago.”
